Fagin's Lot

I'm calling it done. My process was less than ideal. I think it could have been more organic and thus faster. I'm estimating this took me five work days from initial sketch to finish. How do I feel about it? It doesn't work like I was hoping. I'm not very happy with my composition. I like the arrangement of elements but the whole shot itself just isn't very interesting to me. I didn't see that in my sketch. Doh! There are elements here and there that work better than the whole to me. What do you think? Time for the next piece ...

I dig it a lot. I agree that the composition isn't anything spectacular, but all the other elements make up for that to make it an interesting piece. All the cool little details, the color palette, the character designs, and the curious low light source in front of the tank (that makes the barrel cast an intriguing shadow) are what suck me in.

I like all of the little details that become apparent when you look at it for a while - the girl peeking through the hatch, the guy that almost looks like he's wearing a Dallas Cowboys helmet with the peg leg, the rat on the barrel - all cool story telling elements.

Of course you've done better, but its still practice right?

Looks great b! Those details really added a ton of interest to the piece - which was already interesting to start with in my arrogant opinion.

I think you accomplished a lot with this piece. Its great that you can call it finished and have no doubt learned a lot (even if its just what NOT to do) for the next one.

All your quirky little details are so awesome too - very telling of your personality. Its become a distinguishing factor in a 'hethe' piece. I love it!

Great job seeing it through though.

I love it Hethe. There's some great storytelling in here. I enjoy the range of characters in this ragtag band. The rat, the bot, the little girl. Inspiring stuff. Keep up the good work.

I don't claim to be able to truly appreciate all that an artist puts into a piece but I really love this image... conjures up so many ideas, would make a great animation...

Definitely gonna be watching your blog!

I love this piece, the little girl opening the hatch with her head and the boy with goggles and hat are perfect. Your art is very inspiring to me.

this is a great piece. I know that when we spend a long time on a piece, all we end up seing is the mistakes but I really love the way you painted it. The light is really good and has sublte hue changes.

I feel you've dealt well with the overall unified colour and local colours.
