Progress 2 ...

I had some time last night to revisit this piece. Decided to muscle through the problems I was having instead of scrapping all the color/value and trying a different approach. This piece is so far under my expectations right now and I'm frustrated but I have a hope for it. I think through some hard work and feedback from others I'll be able to get it closer to what I'd hoped for. I dig unified color palettes but right now absolutely nothing in the scene has a local color so that's gotta change. I don't know. What do you think? Seriously, tell me what you think.

The thing that bugged me in the first version was the bright spot towards the bottom of the tank (under the little guy in the helmet). It kept drawing my eye away from the middle of the illo. The second version doesn't have this iproblem. The spot on the tank is darker in tone, and the contrast and saturation of the other guys in front of the cloud/smoke help keep my eye looking at the subject. I can't help you with the color aspect, 'cuz you know way more about it than I do, but I think where you are going tonally is quite nice.

Also, maybe some faint background elements will give a little more depth?

I think part of whats bugging me is the composition, just a bit...

The guy holding the cig has a completely straight arm which contrasts the diagonals of the tank turret and the flag as well as the BG smoke. The focal point almost seems to be his hand or the empty space around it?

Crud, I just read two comments above me pointing out what I just said.

Perhaps either playing with shadows or more harsh lights in that area to take away from its focal-ness and have it tie in more with the rest of the lighting in the scene?

oh hippy yeah!!! Nueva trabajo!
All I got to say is, that man needs to be smoking that cigar if you don't want him looking out of place on that big manly tank, not holding it limply in his hand extnded away from his face like he doesn't want to get smoke in his eyes... cough, cough! Let's see him smashing that stogie into his mouth, between his yellow stained teeth with some smoke coming out his nostrils, that's hardcore!
... I don't know where I was going with all that. I love the pic though! It's good to see new personal work!
